I graduated from the University of Adelaide with Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. Following the completion of the psychiatry training program, I have been awarded my Fellowship of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and Certificate of Advanced Training in Addiction Psychiatry. I later enrolled in Advanced Training in Addiction Medicine under The Royal Aust College of Physicians and upon successful completion of this program I gained admission to the Fellowship of the Australiasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine.
I have a special interest in assessment and treatment of addiction disorders, such as gambling, internet and substance addiction. As an addiction psychiatrist, I am in a unique position to identify and treat concurrent mental health and substance use problems in individuals seeking treatment for both conditions.
Since we are all unique individuals, my preferred approach to therapy is one that is both tailored and collaborative in nature. I believe in the enhancement of personal resilience, and I aim to help my clients achieve this by first guiding them through a path of personal understanding of their thoughts, actions and feelings. I utilise evidenced-based psychotherapies with the appropriate medications when needed.
My career has afforded me a wide range of professional experiences. I have treated clients in the hospital and community-based settings, both in the metropolitan and rural regions of South Australia and Northern Territory.
I believe in ongoing professional development to broaden my experiences and gain additional skills. I regularly attend educational seminars and workshops, while maintaining a diverse work portfolio. In addition to my private practice at Centre for Health and Wellbeing, I continue to work with the Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia. I periodically work in Alice Springs as a visiting medical specialist.
As a firm believer in the importance of knowledge, I fulfil my passion of teaching by maintaining an active role in education of medical students, junior doctors and other health practitioners.
